F1 Bahrain pre-season test: Charles Leclerc pips Lando Norris on morning of day four (2026)

Get ready for some high-octane action as we dive into the final week of pre-season testing for the 2026 Formula 1 season! The stage is set in Bahrain, and it's an exciting start with Charles Leclerc leading the pack.

Leclerc, the Ferrari driver, set the fastest time on prototype tires during the morning session of day four, showcasing his skills and the team's dominance. This is not the first time Leclerc has topped the charts in Bahrain, as he also set the pace last Thursday. He was a whole 0.313 seconds ahead of reigning world champion Lando Norris in the McLaren.

But here's where it gets interesting. Mercedes teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who set the benchmark last week, finished third, just 0.419 seconds behind Leclerc. However, he was still 1.532 seconds faster than Alex Albon in fourth place.

The battle between Antonelli and Albon was a sight to behold, with Antonelli overtaking Albon down the inside of Turn 13 with only 17 minutes left in the session. While it may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, it highlights the power gap between the frontrunners and the midfield.

Esteban Ocon's claim that the midfield is "seconds away" from the top four teams - McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull - seems to be supported by the lap times. But is it really that simple?

Unfortunately, Red Bull's new signing, Isack Hadjar, couldn't showcase his full potential due to a pressure problem with one of the coolant circuits in the engine. He managed only 13 laps in the RB22, missing out on most of the session. Despite this, he still managed to set the sixth-fastest lap, just 0.290 seconds slower than Pierre Gasly in fifth place.

The remaining positions were filled by Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Nico Hulkenberg, Arvid Lindblad, and Sergio Perez. Perez, driving for Cadillac, completed just 24 laps due to mechanical issues and various sensor problems on his car.

So, as we head into the new Formula 1 season, who do you think will emerge as the top contenders? Will the midfield teams bridge the gap to the top four? And what impact will Red Bull's early issues have on their performance?

Let us know your thoughts and predictions in the comments below! We'd love to hear your insights and opinions on this exciting start to the 2026 Formula 1 campaign.
