Re-Leaf Tennessee Project

Project Description
from www.tennessee.gov

ReLeaf Tennessee is an educational program about trees for fourth grade students and teachers.
It is a joint project of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry, Tennessee
Forestry Association, Tennessee Urban Forestry Council, and the University of Tennessee
Cooperative Extension Service.  The intent of this program is to encourage the celebration of
Arbor Day and educate students about trees and their importance.

The ReLeaf Tennessee program distributes a tree seedling to every fourth grader in the state.  A
contact person in each county delivers seedlings to participating schools during the week of Arbor
Day, which is celebrated in Tennessee on the first Friday in March.  The County Contact also delivers
an educational packet about trees to participating fourth grade teachers in mid-January.  Each
year ReLeaf distributes approximately 2,700 teacher packets and 66,000 tree seedlings.
